Not sure if the design carved into the front is something specific or of symbolic significance? One would think it is but I’m not sure what if so. I’m guessing it’s 2nd half 19th c. Any ideas? It looks vaguely French to me but I really don’t know.

Nah, I think it’s actually brass that just looks kind of silvery here. Thanks, I like it. I’ve got quite the collection of them going, couldn’t pass this one up at a decent price.

Looks like a stylized Eiffel Tower - Paris Exhibition 1889?

Agree with @elarnia. Stylized Eiffel Tower set against a cartouche. Cartouches were commonly used all over the place in the late 19th Century. So yes, that would date the cane handle to about 1890.

I think it's an early oil derrick. I was born in the Pennzoil region of Pennsylvania near Titusville, where oil was first drilled. It looks like an early well

Nice cane. Out of curiosity is it a sword cane?

Oh man that was my first thought even before I bought it but I convinced myself otherwise. I actually mentioned it to the sale runner and they seemed to think that was not an accurate thought.

I don’t think it is. I’m always hesitant to yank or wrench on the the end of them though. I do have one somewhere that I think has a hidden function but I’m nearly positive I’ll break it finding out what it is.

I have one which has a button to push before you can pull it out. It looks as though yours might have a button or it might be as Komokwa suggested; a simple twist. Your button might be just a joint peg or ?. In your 2nd photo it looks like the head is off center and not securely fastened to the shaft which is exactly how a sword cane would look.

if it's a push button it's to high up on the handle......I think a joint peg too..
