    I knows that! Know how? Cause mine are made of metal stuff! Yep, they be as hard and rusty-crusty as me! Got as many coats of peeling paint as me to!

    I believe it could be a cast iron hole punch. That hole in the middle of the star makes me believe it could be.

    What ever it is it is post 1930s judging by the screws. And the hole in the center of the star appears to be countersunk, so I presume that it is for a second mounting screw.

    I don't think so, Rink. The 2 holes - one in the star and the one above that - should be for screws (or bolts) that attach the knocker to the door. There's nothing visible that would "punch" a hole (in paper?)

    It's a whacka-wacka door knocka'. May have been on a gate too, but meant for banging on a door/wall/gate to let the locals know the sheriff's in town. Or maybe just the Avon lady.

    She's a lot more fun, and cheaper in the long run. No one ever has to go bail after a visit from the Avon Lady. (although if Mansons is involved... you never can tell.)

    You could mount it in the kitchen to hang dish towels, or the entry way to hang a purse. Definitely a door knocker though!
