What is this part of? Age? Origin?

This was in a job lot of stuff. It looks Middle eastern to me. The gold decoration is quite delicate and appears to be hand done. The 'hole' in the base that looks like it's plugged with cement doesn't connect to anything. Overall height is about 11.25" and the diameter of the base is 4"

 

Looks like a floor lamp. Or a piece of one anyway.

Not electrical. No way to get a wire into it.

 

Oh yeah, one could get a wire through that. Looks like it comes apart in several locations. In my mind there is no doubt it was a table lamp at one time.

 

Yes it comes apart - that why I took pictures of the various pieces but there is no path to get a wire through it - it's not electrical. Just from the overall look, I think it's from an era before there were electric lamps. The brass tubing at the end looks more like gas piping but still there is no way to get gas through it either. One of the possibilities that I considered was that it was part of an antique hookah but I don't know enough about them to figure out how it would fit in.

 

then likely a hand towel holder....of sorts........
