This is an interesting one I found. Looks a bit newer than the others. Who do you think made it? I have another with the more swirly patterns as well and that one has hot glue on it it seems like so it appears to be less old . A basket collector probably wouldn't be interested in either one. These are Tenerife-style baskets, named for the island in the Canary Islands off the coast of Spain, where they were first made. Since then, the style has shown up all over the world, from the Marshall Islands to the Coushatta and Seminole tribes, to Mexico, and likely today, to China.

Although frequently mistakenly identified as Native American Indian baskets, no tribe ever used pine needles or raffia until the practice was introduced to tribes in the South by missionaries. This was followed by "how to" books on basketry making. Today there are kits widely available, and instructions on line, on how to make them. Missionaries, craft workers, and just about anyone interested in making a basket, have spread the style all over the world.

The first basket looks in rather poor shape, made with bundle-coiled twigs, with missing raffia stitches, and the glue. The second one is colorful, and better made, with raffia coils and stitching. It may be of interest as a decorative item. But there is really no way of telling who made them.
