Got some great vintage hand tools at the thrift store today. This was in the bag with them. I'm afraid to toss it because it has Neimann Marcus on it. I don't want to offend any Texans. I guess it sits on the felt base. The arm can swing up and stay in place.
You're kidding me? Is this a new invention? Never ever seen that. I don't carry a purse though. Thanks!
I hesitate to say this but . . . I am not impressed with the supposed "Neiman Marcus" lettering in your last photo. Look at it closely, letter by letter, and see if you can "really" read "Neiman Marcus" (including the fact that there does not appear to be an "S" at the end of "Marcus" and that none of the A's have their "cross-bar" and the last "N" in "Neiman" is missing its "downward diagonal" stroke).
They work great & is better than hanging them on the back of your chair where they are suseptible to someone possibly grabbing your wallet or the whole purse.
Caribou, my Grandma used one in the 1960's. It was a lot plainer than yours, but I do believe they've been around for a while.
I kid thee not.....tis what it is....no more than that ! ( maybe u should buy a purse & check it out.........to be sure ! )
Neiman Marcus is a very expensive retail store that started in Texas -- in Dallas, I think. They have stores in big cities all over the US now, though. You could probably find the history through an Internet search.
SIDEBAR......my wife won't put her purse on the floor......I don't know if there actually is any connection to this item.....& it could just be a south american superstition ......but it got me thinking about it...
Hi, In the 1950s it was the fashion to have bag holders like this. I would not put my bag on the floor, horrors!!!!! Just think a cockroach or mouse could get into the bag... greg
The reason I know they work great is because I carry one in my purse & use it when we go out to eat & do not get to eat in a booth or have an extra chair I can stash it on.
I need one of these. I often hang the purse handles from my knee, or put the purse between my feet, or on my lap.
Greg, that happened to a friend of mine back when Trader Vic's was still at the Plaza in NYC. Her husband was "wining and dining" some clients and their wives. Debbie put her purse on the floor, under the table. When they got up to leave, she picked up her purse, and a mouse ran out out of it and up her arm. Just for the record, the management comped the entire tab (as well they should!)
