What is this?

Who knows for sure but snuff box comes to mind.

 

Could have been for storing spices,or whatever one needed a little box for. I like the carving.

 

I must see the bottom and the inside to help you. The metal strip on top is an important clue.

 

AHHH - a small humidor for hashish! Sorry, one can only wish - LOL!!

 

Box may be for camel pills.
