I love strange mystery items and this sure is one to me. I have no idea what this is, who the statue is or how old it is? This is all marble, about 15 inches tall and 40lbs. I have no idea what the statue is made of yet. It appears to be signed on the statue base, but I can’t make out what it says. It has a very old light bulb in the top to illuminate it, (if the cord was still intact) I put it in the artwork forum, because I can’t figure out where else it wound go? HELP!! I don't think the had TVs when this was made? I did not even notice the seal on the back. Made in France! Mystery-6.jpg

Something for a fireplace mantel? No idea if it actually represents some type of Greek God or not........

The signature appears to be that of Aug. Moreau but he was widely copied.

40 lbs. would be a lot to sit on top of a TV.

I think you are Spot On with Aug. Moreau. It looks to be in his style and the tipped light bulb dates it to the correct period. I think it is Spelter, not Bronze. He appered to have worked in that medium also. I looked up a lot of his works, rather unusual in a marble display.

Moreau's dates are 1834 to 1917. A bit early for your piece. I expect a copy of his work.
