I love strange mystery items and this sure is one to me. I have no idea what this is, who the statue is or how old it is? This is all marble, about 15 inches tall and 40lbs. I have no idea what the statue is made of yet. It appears to be signed on the statue base, but I can’t make out what it says. It has a very old light bulb in the top to illuminate it, (if the cord was still intact) I put it in the artwork forum, because I can’t figure out where else it wound go? HELP!!
I don't think the had TVs when this was made? I did not even notice the seal on the back. Made in France!
Something for a fireplace mantel? No idea if it actually represents some type of Greek God or not........
I think you are Spot On with Aug. Moreau. It looks to be in his style and the tipped light bulb dates it to the correct period. I think it is Spelter, not Bronze. He appered to have worked in that medium also. I looked up a lot of his works, rather unusual in a marble display.
