There are some family heirlooms and I would like to determine what kind of jewelry this is.

It has a mark of 8K on the back of the pendant. The ring has no mark because it had been cut/altered (see pictures).

A family member once told us its antique and the stones are real gems and diamonds.

Is there anybody who could explain a little bit about what kind of style this is and maybe from which time period?

Anyone serve in Vietnam? Those were common souvenirs from the era.

Thank you so much all for your reaction! I really appreciate it :)

Very nice to know after all these years.

I really have no understanding about jewelry or stones. I'm going to a jeweler's tomorrow to check the stones. Are white sapphires worth anything?

Again, thanks so much for the reaction! Amazing.

That depends on several factors. Your jeweler will no doubt tell you.

Indeed, but I'll start the ball rolling.....
most stones used in a vast array of jewelry are there for BLING...and do not keep a substantial value.
Diamonds under a carat....unless they are flawless....no one needs em.
Other semi precious gems....ruby , emerald, sapphire, ect...need to be big enuf to command attention, and of Gem Quality , to start to be worth money as a loose stone.

These are just the opening tips to know.......

Short form: I wouldn't worry about the stones much.

IIRC 8 karat is about 33.3% gold, so the metal isn't going to be sky high prices either. The World Gold Council says it is the minimum for current hallmarking in Greece and Portugal, but that's modern standards. If some GI bought these on leave for Mom or the Wife, we'd need standards from 50 years ago. The design says Thailand, so I'd go with that too.

Exactly. And then there is the fact that 'native cut' stones aren't valued highly. Low gold fineness doesn't send prices sky high either.
These are pieces to enjoy for the style and the nice colours.
