What kind of plates or they?

    They look like French faience / earthenware from the second half of the 19th century.
    Similar styles are being made these days but the wear on these looks old.

    Usually similar ceramics are affordable based on what I've found, but especially the bigger plates and platters are generally viewed desirable as decorative items.

    No it's American dinnerware--Ranson by Scio, with a lot of staining around the edges.

    Yes Janet P is right. Scio/Ranson. Manufactured by Homer Laughlin for Scio.

    Looks French. Perhaps originally inspired by french wares. Well, I'm not an expert :sorry:

    If it makes you feel better, bluemoon, Haviland Limoges made a very similar blank. Guess what they called their mold? Wait for it...Ranson!
