What kind of rug is this?

    I agree with cluttered! But it's also strange - a combination of flat weave and (possibly) hand tufted or at least tufted pile in some of the squares. I can't say I've ever seen one like this. I am seeing tufted pile where none exists?

    And you could call this a "runner."

    The other odd thing is the end with no fringe. Can we see a close up of that too, please?

    Its a kilim.
    Symbols are mixed. It has some persian symbols, but many atypical

    Colour scheme indicates India as country of origin. It doesnt look old.

    I've been searching for another rug with both flatweave and tufted/knotted pile without success. Even looked at several websites with detailed explanations of rug weaving techniques and saw no indication that both methods are used together in a single rug.

    The close up of the non-fringed end looks like it was knitted or crocheted off.

    I agree that it doesn't look particularly old.
