What kind of wood is this?

    Disclaimer - not an expert :), but it looks like mahogany to me.

    The upper surface looks like mahogany to me also, not so sure about the under-side. I note a distinct seam in the underside; if that seam does not show on the top surface, then this is plywood; possibly good-quality plywood, but not solid wood.
    If the same seam appears on the top surface, then I'd say this is solid mahogany, and the bottom just looks different because it is unfinished.

    Mahogany veneer. The bottom is also veneered. The substrate could be plywood, particle board (less likely on a 40s piece such as this), or solid wood.

    Mahogany veneer for sure. I have this identical table in my pile of stuff to work on. They are all over the place here in Iowa.
