Hi, I’ve had this plate for a couple months now and would love to know what it says, does anyone know what language it is? Got it for $15 from an estate sale, no idea if it’s antique or not IMG_7589.jpeg IMG_7590.jpeg IMG_7591.jpeg IMG_7592.jpeg

Was once a nice plate/tray. Looks to be Cairoware, though I really can't tell if it is inlaid or not due to the damage. Would hope this could be cleaned up a bit.

Language is Arabic but the script is archaic and not easily deciphered. I had a modern Arabic speaker take a look at something similar and she could only make out bits and pieces. Such script is usually religious in nature, extolling the virtues of Allah. An Arabic scholar might be able to translate it more fully.

To help get rid of the green, get some cheap white vinegar and put the plate somewhere flat. Fill with vinegar and let sit. If you don't like the smell, it can sit outside or you can cover it with plastic. When the vinegar turns green, dump down a drain and rinse the plate. If there's still a lot of green, do it again. If not, dry thoroughly so the reaction can't set in again. Somebody sat a plant on this poor thing! I'm used to getting green gunk off of jewelry, so someone else may know more about shining it up again if desired.
