What polish can I use on this? Some is veneer and some isn't

I now have this in my possession.
The front surround and the base have a veneer on them. Which has some cracking.
The carved legs are solid wood. Note that what looked like fissures or gashes on the cabriole legs are actually intentional lines (not veneer splits, no veneer on the legs).
Can I polish the whole thing with beeswax? Or is beeswax going to be a problem on the veneer?
I have a solid block of beeswax.

See the V of lines on the bulge of the cabriole leg? they are exactly the same on the other side.
Originally I thought those were splits in veneer or fissures in the wood.
But they are grooves carved in and the legs are solid wood. Admittedly they dont add much value, but thats what the maker decided to do - add a couple of grooves.

The other splits in the veneer of course are not intentional.

 

I'd get a bottle of Howard's and go to town on it.
