Thank you for your replies. Since two of you concur, I guess that is what it maus be. I was thinking the lid to the little bowl had perforations, but from this picture I guess not. What period, late 1700's to mid 1800's?

The one you show looks to me to be right in the middle of Terry's estimate....IMO

 

Thank you everyone for your help. Never thought of traveling inkwell. It is interesting. What would a fair value be for the one I pictured?

They don't garner a lot of interest

 

These were common scribe's equipment in the Ottoman empire / Middle East (Turkey, Persia, Arabia, Egypt, etc.). Search the term "qalamdan" on ebay.

 

The one Terry found is a close brother to mine......but If I remember correctly I got a little less than $100 Canadian....
Boy , times have changed.....or maybe I was one of the 1st to list one of these on eBlech..???
