    Just liked the look of this at a recent estate sale. Impulse purchase in other words.

    Do you call this... a tintype?

    Also, looks like it maybe had some over-coloring or something? See how the hair looks?

    Info/observations appreciated.

    I assume it's on metal - which would make it a tintype.

    It appears that she's wearing a hair net, although that section in the front does look more like it was drawn on.

    And of course, the gold circle (button or brooch) was hand painted on too.

    Thanks. Yes on metal. You don't really see the hairnet etc. so well when you just look at the picture, but in the close up it really stands out. Also seems to be some enhancement around the eyes. And yes, that gold circle. Was this commonly done?

    Hand tinting/coloring of images was common. Looks like it was once in a frame and matting, with that faint oval outline. Size is a plus. Full plate.

    Thanks for the info on the table. According to the table Kronos is correct, a "full plate".
