Grabbed this yesterday on whim. Hoping someone can explain the tassels or ties emanating from the reverse? Around 70% of the homes contents were from Japan. The jersey may or may not be. There is an internal tag, but if there was anything printed on it, it’s long gone. I’d guess 50’s-70’s. 60’s-70’s more likely probably. It looks like it was made for shoulder pads.

It does. Which would lead one to football. And that's what Google Lens brings up as matches -- football jerseys.

Could be a high school which would be harder to identify

That would explain the quality too. Wasn't an expensive thing in its time.

That makes sense I suppose. Although these little straps are very delicate. They wouldn’t do much to secure shoulder pads for a full contact sport like football. I looked at a lot of vintage football jerseys after reading yours and Debs replies and could not find one with similar straps. That doesn’t mean it’s not the case, it would be neat to find a similar example though.

I don’t suppose you saw one with similar straps/ties? I couldn’t find one.

I had little to no expectations of identifying the actual team/club that used it. Just the sport was all I hoped for. Come to think of it though I do have some details on the former owner. I could use that info to dig. I wouldn’t have thought to go that route without your comment.

Definitely a very lightweight construction. A messy but effective repair to a hole or tear towards the bottom front.
