What was this Chinese cloisonne urn used for?

Looks like it was used to burn things, but at 22" tall and 16 1/2" in diameter it's rather large for incense. No markings on the base, just a solid teal enamel. There is pitting throughout. Any ideas what this was used for and an approx age?

Wish we could enlarge your pictures. Don't know why some people's do and some don't.

Any way - if the pitting is in the enameling, it usually indicates age to the cloisonne.
Does it only look burned on the inside?
It may have had a lid at one time. Used for storage of some sort.

I wish I had better pics of it too! This is another piece from the "inventory" house. I never know how the pics will turn out until I get home. They weren't very good this time. I'm sorry. I can always get more the next time I go over.

There is pitting throughout and it does look like something was burned inside of it. The second picture in looking down inside from the top. The last pic is of the inside of the base. It looks ashen compared to the top. I don't detect a smell at all though.

Although this pic is fuzzy, you can see the pitting a bit better. DSCN6417_25400.JPG

    Older cloisonne has pits.
Could be late 1800s or 1930s. I'm thinking the earlier period.

Old brass can turn color from water, or other reactions.
Or as you suspect, maybe someone got rid of evidence by burning letters inside the vase/urn.;););)
