What was this piece used for?

    Probably an obvious answer but what was this Royal Doulton piece for?

    The piece on the top is for supporting flower stems so it's a type of flower "frog."

    It may not have been original to the pot.
    You don't give measurements.
    It may have been a sugar bowl with missing lid. The frog just happened to fit.

    The pattern looks late 1800s-to early 1900s.
