What would this large needle be used for?

It is 7" long, wide and curved at the pointed end. It was in my mother's tool box which is full of random stuff.

As clutteredcloset suggested, possibly for rug or re-upholstery projects.

I thought maybe leather, but rethinking this. Maybe carpet?
I looked at some photos, some descriptions say carpet, others say leather.

I saw the curved ones but didn't look closely enough when I was searching. Makes sense. My aunt did upholstery. I have large curved needles too.

I used one of these to re-sew the leather armrest cover in my old Jaguar.

I've used one of these, but it's been a while.

I inherited my aunt's wing chair pattern and was able to recover one from my husband's family, but that was fifteen years ago. I lack ambition for a project like that these days.
