Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

This is an early 20th-century photo in my collection (love the amazed look on the baby's face!).

I've been wondering what the huge piece of furniture behind the baby is? What is that form of furniture called? This is just to satisfy my curiosity.

Would call it a buffet with hutch top. Circa 1900.

The baby is thinking "Why is he hiding underneath that black cloth? Doesn't he know he looks ridiculous?".

I guess it's regional. Don't they call these "suits" in parts of the South? :)

Here, in California, we call them "sets" and "suites" :)

    Hi,
You have an Exceptionally Beautiful piece of heirloom furniture.
My Great Aunt, Claudia, had an almost identical piece. She called it a Sideboard.
After inheriting it, I've used it as a For Anything and Everything.
    Thanks.

Did anyone notice the 2 little pieces of paper that look like they are stuck on the door sides to help open them?

Thanks, everybody! And no, I had not noticed the pieces of paper. You have a good eye!

So buffet, sideboard, buffet with hutch top. That helps!

Also notice the child-size rocker the baby is sitting on. It appears to be a much more plain style.

I think in the Southern US they still spell it "suite" but pronounce it like "suit." In other parts of the country it is pronounced like "sweet."

Thanks -- I was thinking maybe Mission style (which I learned from this site, mostly from you!).
