    I think this is a piece of early Quimper Pourquiet Beau faience . How would you describe it? I wonder if it is a stand or trivet perhaps. 24cm square

    I think they call these table mats.
    Same thing as trivet.

    Just realised it is actually Pouplard Beatrix Malicorne not Quimper and yes the the French sellers seem to use tablemat as all one word.

    We call those table mats here, too. Or tea pot stands. A trivet is usually wrought metal.

    Yes they are often wrought metal but if you search ceramic trivet you will find plenty of non-metal examples.
