Can someone tell me what year/years this Steiff Jocko is from?
What is the barrel around his neck like a St. Bernard rescue dog?
And finally - what is going on with his thumb nail?!
    Thank you!

I recently found a Jocko, but not with the barrel; that looks like it came off of a dog and someone put it on the monkey. It even says Bernard on it. Mine dates to the 1950s and this one looks like him.

Odd that the button is on backwards...........What is the size?

    Jointed?

What is the thumbnail made of?

    Almost looks like wood.

I'm trying to find out about the thumb here! Also the button in ear is missing - I was trying to show the hole where it was

Then what is that on the back of his left ear in the picture of Jocko from the back?

In your very last picture, it sure looks like a button (backwards) in the ear.

Someone added the silly barrel & collar and I suspect someone added the thumbnail too.

I understand that you want to know why the nail is different, but I'm just wondering what it is made of......wood? plastic? metal?

It might be there to have supported something.......is there a hole in it as it appears in the photo?

My sister had a Jocko Monkey and I thought all of its nails were painted. Fingers and toes. I could be wrong.

I did find a few monkeys with painted nails on line.......I think that these were later monkeys.....

The nail on OP's appears to be a separate piece....not just paint on cloth?

I mudt have been tired from photographing all the teddy bears! I didn't see the button in his ear (backwards yes; why would they do that?) and the nail - he does have other nails painted!
    Pics here
PS - I took the collar & barrel off his neck so Jocko could be Jocko again; he seems happier without it (last pic).
PSS - Another new finding - Jocko squeaks when you press his stomach!?! Is that normal? Does it help tell what year he is from?
    Thanks all!

Also, with his legs kinda straight he measures 17" from top of head to toes of his still bent legs - he's a karger than normal one, right?

It looks like the same stuffing that is coming out of the holes in his feet is coming out of a hole in his thumb.
