What's Going On With Empty eBay Links? Anyone?

Today makes twice; a blank-page response to clicking on eBay links here on Antiquers. Is it serving some arcane purpose...or just a tech glitch?

This has been happening now for a few weeks. Not sure why.

Just an FYI, I see that the link adds more than what is copied and pasted ...

I needed to add spaces in the information to illustrate.

I copied and pasted this ...
    w w w .e bay.com/itm/304465365535

This is what happens in the post when it makes the link ...
    h t t p s ://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?campid=5337485078&toolid=10001&mpre= h t t p s ://w w w .e bay.com/itm/304465365535

Something in the added info is doing it.

The site is adding an affiliate link section to any ebay link. Ideally, that would benefit the site if someone were to follow through with that link and then buy something on ebay. A small percentage would be kicked back to the site owner for referring that person to ebay. But, it's broken and has been for a while now.

I think @mirana covered this '1pixel' dud link earlier-you have to nip off/simplify the address to make it work.

    From the link above:

The link is getting wrapped in tracker codes. You have to edit the url out of them, and if it's relinked they get added back on. Copy paste the text is best I've got.

    ebay.com/itm/335826785761

You have to omit the https and www when posting a url otherwise the forum automatically creates the link which adds in the extra bits in the address when clicked and breaks it.

IF you click the link and get the broken bit, know that the clean link is in there but sometimes the extra junk is on the front AND end of the url, or just one side. Click on the url in your browser to edit it and delete the extra bits. Clean links should look like above OR if it's a general search it'll be "keyword=blue+depression+glass" as an example of what you look for. This way you can still fix links for yourself on old posts.

Also if the clean link is visible in the post, you can right-click (or hold-clock on mobile) to highlight it and choose "copy link text" to paste into your browser. NOT "copy link address".

I hope this gets fixed soon. :grumpy:

There are some major problems on eBay at the moment, especially eBay.uk

For some weeks now, it has been impossible to combine an invoice for a buyer who purchases two or more items.
eBay are aware, but it's not been fixed.
Buyers have to pay the cost and the full shipping for each item and then you have to refund them the difference.

I noticed that as well when I cut and pasted an eBay link. I didn’t realize it was a widespread issue. Thanks for posting
