Featured What's in the center of this hatpin? Glass or stone?

    Bought this in a group of hatpins tonight. It has a beautiful piece in the center but I'm not sure if it's glass or stone.

    I'm with Bronwen. The slightly roughish, pitted surface makes me lean toward porcelain. It is very pretty.
    Are those (faux) pearls or silvery beads?

    They look like faux pearls.

    I am extremely nearsighted and wear contact lenses. When I take my lenses out, I can see very well close to my eyes. This morning, no lenses, I can see a depth to the material that can't be seen in a flat photo.

    So, it doesn't look like porcelain to me. But, I've been wrong before.

    They remind me of the papyrus(?) they put on everything during the Egyptian Revival.

    The do look rather like Egyptian stylized papyrus or lotus blossoms. Closer to papyrus, I think, which is more fan-shaped than lotus.
