Whatsit?

Anyone have any idea what this is? It's posted on our local board by one of my neighbors. He says it screws down tightly. Don't have any context or anything.

Looks like it is about 4 feet tall, am I close?

 

Sorry it's hand-held - about 6-8 inches tall.

I was thinking it might have something to do with rope-making or braiding or something. Just a WAG.

Just dropping in to say "hello" to elarnia! I haven't seen you much here lately. Although, I also am no longer able to keep up with every post, so may have missed you.

 

When the metal tabs on the top piece are aligned with the troughs on lower metal piece, do they fall into them so the two plates are fully in contact, or not?

 

Tool holder for woodworking,,,leather working? For sure a clamp for some tool.

 

I went through Tandy's site and didn't find anything similar.
I does clamp to hold something and designed to do so quickly.

 

The handle length suggests it holds a tool for chipping, or pounding something. Or some kind of gavel. Its very interesting

 

It could be a scraper. It would hold 3 tools at once instead of continuously changing worn out blades.

 

Dunno but I want to flip it over and make it the handle for a condiment server or something. Not this one but along these lines. (hey is there a prize for the best guess?)

It is probably pre-1980's since it appears to have cadmium plating on the metal parts. That was about when cad was found to be unhealthy and governments banned its use for plating.

 

Ummmm, mmmm, could be an older model of 3-sided tone scraper without scrapers and mallet. If u think that's a possibility take it to a music store and ask some old f___t who's been there forever.
