Whatzit forged ring thing?

    Industrial? Agri? Military? It is wrought iron, 2-piece forging, long part overlaps ring, joined by very neat, flat forge weld joint, no visible dents. I can’t see any clear markings in these pix but “maybe.” Traces of gray paint. Thought at first there was some chance it was an old shot (aka cannonball) checking gauge but I’ve seen dozens of different designs of those and none had a handle longer than about 7”.

    Could be a bowl holder for smelting lead or something very similar.
