They had some very high end stuff. Many items in the thousands and some in tens. The owner was well traveled. Sometimes some cool stuff gets overlooked at sales with lots of really obviously expensive stuff. I mean stuff gets overlooked at all sales but sometimes really good stuff at high end sales it seems. This was left in the last few mins and I think I literally paid $1 for it, if that much. The guy with the jewelry was giving me sterling rings 5/$1 and whatever else was left cheap. This buckle has a great look I think. It may be .800 silver but theres no purity mark unless that’s what’s pictured. Maybe it’s not silver at all but still cool. The woman looks kind of Russian to me but no idea what the characters are and no Russian hallmarks. I’m sure someone here can point me in the right direction.

The lady is from India, but her sari is not of the specific Rajasthani type. Which doesn't mean the buckle couldn't have been made in Rajasthan, they wear the more regular style sari as well.
You do realize it is half a buckle? Which is perfectly fine for the price you paid, of course. It is probably not silver, or maybe .500, which is not generally recognized as silver.
The lady seems to be wielding a jambiya/khanjar type dagger. Her partner, who would have been on the other half of the buckle, probably held a similar weapon. A dance or a marital issue?:wideyed:

Thanks ladies! I thought she was holding a knife and wondered about that too! Based on others seems like it was a dance or ritual. Looks like you guys nailed the origin. Although some on ebey with the same type of marks are listed as being Burmese or Indian. Yes to being a partial buckle. Looks like it could have been one of two or one of three panels. Was .500 silver common in India? I don’t own any Indian silver that I’m aware of other than possibly this so I never looked into it. D0216412-78AF-4709-A6FD-6B0E0DD4AA4D.jpeg
