I bought it because I thought it was Rome, but people tell me that its not likely.

    It is ROME.
I deciphered a part of small pale writting beneath.
    It says, Roma 1800

    I also deciphered following:
"Veduta dell Antico Ponto Jana ulessali restaurato da Nieto II"

You would think Ponto Jana would be the name of the bridge, and maybe it was back then... but I think today it's the Ponte Sisto. (At least the Sisto seems to have that central medallion.)

Maybe it is strange form of arhaic italian sentence, Word Nieto can be hardly seen and may as well be Sisto

I think Nieto II is the name of a person who was responsible for a restoration of the bridge, and the print was made to commemorate that.

If it is the Sisto, that "medallion" is, in fact, an oculus (eye), a hole through the bridge to lighten the masonry load at that point.

Did anyone notice that the picture posted by Makanudo only has 4 arches.
The others posted have 5 arches.

I think you need to determine where Ponte Jana is

The bridge from the link above, that has 5 arches is not ponte sisto.
Ponte sisto has 4 arches and a circle.
