Featured WHITE JADE PLAQUE

Hi hope everythings going well, New purchase today, A pierce of with jade plaque necklace.
Any comments plz...

 

Very nice, abdel.
It is a Chinese 'Spirit Lock', which traditionally served to secure a person's spirit or soul to his/her body so evil forces couldn't steal it.
In the centre is the Shou symbol for longevity, on either side of the Shou symbol are stylized dragons to protect it.
It is upside down though, this is the way they were worn:

 

poor guy couldn;t hold his dremel steady...at best the work is sloppy...

 

Why dear

 

top left curl is cracked off.
the dragons faces are poorly drilled and the secondary line designs and outlines are all rough and carved with such haste that even though it looks symetrical not one side of any design matches the other.
It's a crude rushed work...at best.

 

i know jade is highly prized and was reserved for imperial use in old Dynasties. This stone is pure white throughout without any hint or tinge of any other colors. It is so translucent that it appears to almost catch the light and glow softly. Really i love jade.
Really i don't know if it's an old piece or just new imitation traditional carved piece ??

 

It is a recent piece. Not necessarily an imitation, these are a Chinese tradition, popular for centuries. As komo said, not top quality. It was handmade in a workshop that makes many of these, to be sold in China and abroad.

Only certain types of jade were reserved for imperial use, not all.

 

You mean it's not the best quality of white jade Or this is just a FAKE WHITE JADE.

Abdel, you can't compare the two at all, they could not be more different if they tried.
1. The one in the listing is older than yours, although it may not be as old as the seller says.
2. It is carved from a rarer and more valuable type of jade.
3. It is a pierced double layer carving, with an intricately carved cavity between the two layers, not flat a carving like yours.
4. It was carved by an accomplished carver, not by someone working in a production line way like yours.

Yours is nice, but not high quality. It is something people buy as a symbol, not as an antique, a collectable, or a work of art.

 

Not even that, the apple in your link is better carved than abdel's apple.

 

Now I'm hungry for apple pie
