This one is a mystery to me. Is it a Chinese parader with a mythical bear/lion costume? NWC NA or African tribal dancer? None of the above? Not an antique but I’d think a few decades old at least, probably up to 4-5 of them. No marks at all. Pretty nicely carved. The creature looks like a bear more than anything to me but some of these creatures aren’t always super literal looking. I’d think it’s roughly 10” long. I’d lean NWC but not confidently. 0561FCFC-C46C-4315-848B-C9F92F988CF6.jpeg 6728642D-EBD6-4D1A-AEEC-660FF1E60E50.jpeg
I forgot to get a photo of bottom. I’ll update with that to help ID wood variety.

Not NWC NA; they don't have any traditional dances that involve two people in a costume, so far as I know, and the eyes and eyebrows wouldn't be right for NWC.....looks much like a lion dancer...only clearly not a normal Chinese lion dancer.
    A mystery to me.

Not that I know a damn thing about it...but the ears, if nothing else, suggest ursine; all else (eyebrows, eyes, nose, cheekbones an' teeth) are more human than animalistic...except perhaps for a few of the primates.
    That's my 2 cents worth.

Yeh that two person thing didn’t work for me for NWC either but there’s enough I don’t know that I was still holding out hope. Thanks

Monkey man bear. This one is proving harder than I realized. I figured someone here would make some sense of it. Thanks

For me it looks like Jaguar, not a lion and maybe it is Mayan Jaguar ritual costume.
I am not able to attach the pictures, because it is licensed. But here is the site.

That’s a neat angle! It does have spots. That might help explain why the carving looks so un-Chinese despite the tradition of dancing with/in multiple person costumes there. I wonder if that tradition existed in Mayan culture? I see a lot of solo dancers when I google Mayan jaguar dancers. I don’t see a jaguar when I look at the face but they did do ears like this on some of their jaguar masks and there’s those spots…

Mine, too! Stayed at the Cannery Pier, back when I could afford it; Shopped at FogBound, I think it was called...2 floors, plenty of Maritime stuff, good gentle folks. Smoked oysters at Josephson's; Supper at Bridgewater or Fulio's. A sweet old town with beaucoup charm!

First time we visited Astoria,I was hit with the impression I was seeing 1870's San Francisco-the cascade of Victorian homes perched on the hills towards the Bay was stunning.

What I can see of the loincloth (?) (on the front person) looks like a Mesoamerican style. A few more views in a less cluttered setting might be helpful.

Thanks Bosko! That Bose center speaker is just a rando. It is however sitting on top of my first pair of Bose 901’s. I’ve wanted them my whole life. Finally got a pair a year of so ago. Local lady gave me a great deal. Her husband bought them for top dollar and sadly passed before ever using them. They sat in the garage for years after until I got them. She put all his records and stereo equipment on the curb shortly after he passed because she couldn’t stand seeing it. Luckily the speakers never left the garage once he brought them home. He was a big rock n roll guy, as am I. She was really happy to know I was going to be rocking out with them like her husband would have. I showed her part of my record collection that was very similar to her husbands taste and let her know they’d get cranked for a long time to come. It seemed to be very cathartic for her.

I love those views up in OR too! I walked and explored a good portion of the coast from SD to north of Portland. It amazed me that as beautiful as the coast starts down there it only gets prettier and more dramatic every step you take north.

Way North of me you'll find the Gulf Islands off the coast of Vancouver Island- as spectacular as is the indigenous art produced up there.
