Who is the author of this picture?

 

It might be worth taking quite a few more photos and sending them to a serious art gallery or museum.

 

It would be nice to see the entire painting in one photo. Is the woman in the lower right corner holding a tambourine? There is some kind of bushy plant with white flowers, could be roses, that turns up all over, including on top of one of the supports for the bridge. Is that a formal garden behind the building, with only the same white flowers?



This is really very weird altogether. No two figures are looking at each other, although a couple are looking out at the viewer. Three people dancing merrily while two others are fleeing (?) in distress? People filing singly on the bridge, coming/going. There's a Bosch quality to it.

 

Almost looks like a Biblical allegory.

That struck me most. Very strange. It almost looks like it is several pictures in one.

 

They have extremely fat arms, all of them, but maybe those two are merely dancing ... and she is rolling her eyes because he is so out of step?

 

I agree that getting an art expert to look at the painting would be good. Are you near a museum you could take it into?

Can you post a photo of the back?

 

Looks like it was touched up with a different pigment right through and over the signature.

I'm not totally clear on what I'm seeing in the photos of the back, but at least some areas, like what I assume is wood in the center, don't look as old as I thought they would. I don't know if that's meaningful, though.
