DSCF8989.JPG DSCF8985.JPG DSCF8986.JPG DSCF8987.JPG I bought a bag of "wounded birds" a few weeks ago in that "kthnxbye" lot, and this was hiding under a carved horse. Bought it for the horse. I once sold a Takahashi bird to Carol Takahashi (her parents made them) so I've seen the real deal before. This one though...? It has a safety pin gooved and fixed into the back - a total WWII make-do since the pinbacks they were known for weren't made yet. WWII metal rationing. No siggie, but only some were signed. The feet are missing, which is how it ended up where I found it. The paint looks good though, and the wood looks right.

I sold one that was legit years ago, to Carol Takahashi. She literally wrote the book. The website for said book won't let me in if it's even still up, and the book costs about as much as my last trip to the dentist.

I’ve had a few in the past, but mine were signed, so the sleuthing was minimal. It looks right though

That's what I was thinking, but the safety pin threw me. No idea what the price difference is between the later ones and the early ones.
