It certainly seems to be in a broadly late 17th/early 18th century style and could of course be either period or a subsequent reinterpretation of a similar aesthetic. What does the constitution look like up close?

Hi and welcome Vijay. It is a lovely table and will look perfect after some tlc.
Could you please post some more photos? People will want to see something of the construction as well.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. There are members on this forum that appear inclined to trot out the 'looks like a 19th century repro' line almost automatically, often without evidence and seemingly in lieu of a potentially more constructive or evidence based response. It's become a default reply which, unless supported, offers only discouragement to new members. I don't think it's necessarily unhelpful to point this out to the OP.

That said, the tone of my remark was undoubtedly somewhat snide, needlessly so, and for that I apologise.

Phil, you can still edit your post, if you want to. It would be fair to Vijay, imo.

Earth to Phil, you can not authenticate old furniture with photographs alone, it's impossible, because the camera often misses vital construction details that are easy to see in person. Authentication of very old furniture requires an in person examination, simple as that.
That being said, photos are the only medium that an online forum can use to discuss old furniture, imperfect as it may be. I, like most posters here offer their best guess based on pic's provided.

It is the same with questions on archaeological items and some other areas as well. We have experience and do our best to help, but hands on is even better.

Fair enough. Sometimes a plainly spoken and briefly stated opinion can read unintentionally

Done, albeit with some misgivings. I don't want to see any new member discouraged by a seemingly off-handed or dismissive appraisal of his or her items. If, however, you're suggesting that this wasn't the place/time then yes, agreed. I don't want to see a new member discouraged by my tendency towards snark, either.

Thank you. I edited my post to remove the quote from your post, thought that would be fair to both of you.

This will all be very confusing to Vijay when he reads it.;)
I hope he will be back.

With any luck he'll find the whole potentially confusing exchange curiously edifying. Plus, as online forums go, I'd say that this one is more sedate than most. He'll have seen far worse on mumsnet, I'm sure.
