With the Cleveland Indians getting renamed in the next few years. Does their vintage memorabilia and gear become more (or less) collectable? Will sports fans hoard all stuff with Chief Wahoo/Indians name on it and will there be a temporary run up in prices? I am not sure since there is so much vintage stuff out there since baseball is extremely popular here in the Midwestern U.S.

Sports collectables are not really my focus so I though I would get the forum's opinions.

    Thanks,
    Joe

there will be a run at first........those wishing to have a piece of history , and those jacking up the price to serve them............

I'd wondered about such things too. Around here it's now the no name Washington Football Team that used to be the Redskins. I'm not a collector but had figured something might change one way or the other.

I agree with Komo. When Land O Lakes said they were changing the packaging, there was a run on certain items... like their recipe boxes. The prices have come down a lot from when it first was announced. If you have it try to sell it, but be warned some sites don't like sellers using certain words and could pull the listings.

    What next,

Indian Motorcycles, Indian Chieftain, Indian Chief, Indian Scout.

    Indian Head Cent.

I once got sanctioned on the eBay boards for saying the word "Paddy" its the shortened version of Patrick especially in Ireland. It was deemed racist.

I got banned for three days for saying "The seller is Chinese" it was racist and insulting.:hilarious:

The situation with references to Native Americans has to do with a history of both genocide and cultural repression/cultural genocide. The sensitivities stem from that trauma.
It is something most of us outside North America don't know much about.
There are Native Americans who feel the genocide is still going on. That is understandable, when you look at certain facts and how they are handled by authorities.

In general, healing past and present trauma depends for a great deal on the way the state and other authorities recognize the impact of the trauma, and act accordingly.

Never knew the Irish were a race. You live and learn...
Would it have been acceptable if you had said the seller is from the country with a 'Socialist Market Economy'?;) Or from the most populous country in Asia?

While I think you will see an immediate rise in prices, they will level off. Long-term, would expect items to remain collectible.

Here with the university of Illinois retiring their Chief, items remain highly collectible years later.

They'll fall into the realm of all sports teams that have changed their names . logo's and colors & even locations over the years........for one reason or another...
