image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Is there a way to pin down the production period? Wonder why all the legs's bottoms are chipped almost the same way?

How "pinned down" do you want to get? The mark dates between about 1922-23 and no later than 1949 (when the founders sold the business and its name changed to eliminate the "Wood Carvers" part.) It would think the earlier part of that range - up to the Depression? But that's just a "feeling."

Do all 4 feet really have that identical chunk out them? Weird.

Well, not quite identical but all chipped at the corners.

This kind of chipping is typical at the ends of turnings where they meet the floor. As you can see, you only have approximately 1/2" of wood so there really isn't a lot of strength there. It is actually pretty poor design to have this indent in the turning so close to the bottom like this.

I've found myself buying these mid 20th century furniture pieces of Jacobean or Colonial styles - often the quality is fantastic and they can be bought for a song at flea markets, etc. I'm a big fan of 1930's Cushman Colonial Creations of N. Bennington, VT. who incorporated an artistic modern flair to their designs.
