Hi all. I wasnt sure wich forum these should be in,hope this is right. I found these carvings and they intrigued me ,especially the boot. Its just so random ! The boot is 6 inches high,4 1/2 wide and the soldier(?) is 10 1/2 inches high. The soldier is some very light wood it weighs practically nothing. Any and all input is always appreciated.

the guy has a sort of Russian look to him like the soldiers we saw in the movie "Fiddler On The Roof". Or maybe I am so tired I am just not making any sense.

He looks like a circus strong man or something from the turn of the last century.

My first thought was Russian dancer. I love him, and would buy him in a heartbeat. He reminds me of my dancing days.:)

He could be the Russian Oscar of course.:playful:

Interesting input. I thought him a soldier or something because of the cap with what looks like a badge. I also thought he was pine, but I cant recall feeling pine so light? Thanks for the responses !

I'd guess that the "soldier" wood is Western Red Cedar and the boot, Honduras Mahogany.

Although, short grain on the base of the figure would be difficult to keep in one piece if WR cedar (easily split), still, older growth does have a pronounced grain and you say it is lighter than a piece of pine ...

It actually looks like fir, but that would be heavier than pine in my experience ..so probably a variety of pine!

I'd agree with red cedar also.
