Hi folks found this cool woodcut block today (£5 in a antique type shop) i like the style of it, and seemed to have been carved in a confident way (or by someone who's accustomed) its that typical small woodcut size not even sure if there'd be value in something like this, but it was to interesting to pass something written on the back (can't make out) i still like it as an item as well for on a shelf etc
"Charge to Burt(on) ?" "Change to Burton ?" The letters in that first word are sloppy...idk. I could understand "Birth" maybe given the image. It's a interesting shelf object, as you say. As a woodblock carving it was done very quickly and/or roughly. May have been a deliberate choice.
looking at how he's done it it seems pretty deliberate makes me wonder if there are techniques for filling mistakes, or would you just chuck alot of boards away
yeah which only confuses it more to be honest the image isn't the easiest to work out either can't quite work out that area with the arms and legs
you've got the main arm, the main leg (that seems to just stop) then you've got those other smaller bits that overlap
