    I have a box that's either the same or very similar... I forget what the design on the top of mine looks like.

    I don't know the origin of mine, either, but I think it at least goes back to mid-20th century, maybe earlier. Maybe meant for sewing supplies? Just a guess, though.

    Inexpensive wooden boxes like this were most often originally sold filled with candy, they're sometimes found with the candy makers' labels still intact...

    Should have mentioned that there were many variations, including the ubiquitous 'cedar chests', and they were common around the 1920s-50s...
