Featured Wooden kitchenware

    These are from the family farm, and are all 8 1/2 to 9 1/2 inches long.

    I have no idea on the small spoon and I forget what the large round ladle/spoon was used for, but according to family history, my great grandparents used the two paddles on the left for decorating butter, to make it look fancy. wooden kitchenware.jpg wooden kitchenware back.jpg

    Looks like a rice scoop.:confused:

    The wide scoop/paddle is for butter.

    That would make sense. There was a butter churn on the family farm as well, and they would hitch up the horses and wagon to sell butter at the market in the city.

    Part of the butter making process is to paddle it, to squeeze out the last of the buttermilk. The grooves would have allowed the liquid to run out in a channeled way, which would make it easier to catch.

    Can see they might also have been used to leave an impression on a block of butter.

    Yeah, slapping butter around. The decorative ones were usually single: had a rose or whatever to make a pretty pattern.
