    Thank you for your help.

WOW! That much in 2008? I hope it has appreciated since then!

It's going to be worth scrap price. Back in 2008 silver was at $15-$20 an oz. Today it's near $30.

So you feel this piece is worth about as much scrap as collector value?
I tend to agree with you, but I hate the thought of scrapping.

Not really an interesting or unique design, or a hot company. I don't see any reason for it to be worth above scrap to anyone. Much more interesting and historic pieces are being scrapped every day, sadly. It's just how it is with precious metals.

I've never done any serious sales of silver (or anything else, for that matter). For example, if I were to approach a jewelry store that buys silver, how much below scrap value would they be likely to offer per gram (today's price was $0.89 per gram)? I assume it would be a percentage, but what would be fair to me and the buyer?

Yeah, if it's in an old gas station, it's not likely to get my business.

Especially if the signs says "We buy Gold and Sliver".

It doesn't matter if it's a nice shop or converted gas station, try them all and go with the best price :)

There is a scrapper in the next town over with a very nice shop, I buy from him but go to someone else to sell. He really low balls.

I really wish there was a silver appraiser in our area. I feel like some of the items I have may be worth more to a collector than as scrap. I've tried looking at sold prices, when I can find them, for like or similar pieces, but they're wildly different in some cases.
I'm thinking of sending photos to "Rare Silver Buyers dotcom". Does anyone have experience with them?

Utilitarian pieces seldom sell for more than scrap value, unless they are exceptionally extravagant or unique masterpieces..
