Those Victorians really loved wacky table ware and so do I. It’s marked J.Garnier and I can’t figure out if that was just the artist or the factory or both. Everybody states the artist Jean Garnier existed from 1853 to 1910 or thereabouts and generally describe their stuff as Art Nouveau but nobody explicitly states if Garnier is also the maker. Only markings underneath are “Etain garanti pur Paris” which gloogle translates as “Pure guaranteed tin – Paris”.

    Data 15.5cm High, ~9cm Round, 0.54Kg

Etain can, and often does mean "pewter" ;)

as it does in this case ...you have a pewter jug there!

"étain garanti pur" was the standard required for pewter with a minimum of 90 % of tin. contrary to English other languages have no word for every possible alloy.
Jean Garnier also worked for Kayserzinn in Germany.

It is adorable, Miscstuff, but I don't fancy pouring cream from it into something I'm going to eat. ;)
