Featured WOW WOODEN BIRD CARVING - EDGAR ALLAN POE'S BIRD?

I found this at a local thrift store yesterday - my first thought was Edgar Allan Poe (but I can't remember which story has a bird) - this thing is something else!

But I can't find a signature or mark anywhere - any thoughts on it?

Is it hand carved?

PS - It's pretty big - 18" x 11"

The bones are my dogs' breakfast!

 

It is a fun bird, but it has no similarity to Balinese carving. So if it is Bali made, it was made by an outsider who happened to be staying on Bali for a while.

 

they carve lots o' stuff in Bali......non traditional.....
I'm just looking at the wood......

 

All I can say is, Nevermore.

 

Pretty bad, but as the saying goes “there’s an ass for every chair”.

 

Pretty bad? Well I guess my arse fits in that chair - I like it.

 

Then by all means continue to enjoy it.

 

I'll like it more if it sells for what I think it's worth (as opposed to what it's actually worth!)

 

Does it look like a raven? Any other bird come to mind?
To me it looks like something that would look down on you in a haunted house - or the Gestapo headquarters!
