Any idea how old the writing slope is?
And are the dipping pens from the same period?

Delicious! Can we get a shot of the nibs? It isn’t uncommon to have nibs from different times and places in a set that has actually been used, but at least one looks like it is marked.

Beautiful, Marote. And still has the original bottles and the leaf as well as some pens and nibs. Pretty rare to find a slope this complete.

Will try to add those pics the latest on Monday.
The one you're probably referring to, has 'iridium point' and a size (if I remember it correctly...) and 2 others have the size

    Nope :(
I was indeed hoping to find something there, when I noticed the pen slope and inkwell storage didn't go all the way down, but, as (somewhat) visible in this pic, it's just empty space.

The nibs all look fairly recent to me. 21st or late 20th c. The ink knife and lead holder look closer to age appropriate.

I was already wondering how on earth the nibs could be used with any of the other items
    Great!

Hah yeah...you can get some lead for the lead holder if you wanted to use it as a pencil. Look for drafting lead. Comes in various thicknesses and a few colors, although smaller diameter graphite is most popular.

The great thing about modern nibs is they haven't changed much from the old ones in shape so if you find an old dip pen holder, you can buy new nibs for it. Usually the smaller, rounded base ones. The ones here are all calligraphy nibs and not normal writing ones. You also have your choice of modern but-make-it-fancy-fantasy-history dip pens if you want an stand-in that you can use. :D

We had to use a fountain pen at primary school. Such a joy when you're left-handed :arghh:
Every day I would get home with a blue hand, and my notebooks were always filled with stains and blurry texts ...

Very nice Victorian writing slope. Has definitely been round the block a few times.

The steel-pens/nibs look to be 20th century.

BTW - The Iridium Point EF pen is almost certainly from a fountain pens, not a dip pen. "EF" is "Extra Fine".

The writing surface could be replaced, if you got the skills for it - not particularly difficult.

The box is missing one piece - the pen-tray that goes over the storage compartment between the inkwells. Originally this would've been a concave piece of wood (inward curving, to stop the pens rolling out of the box) but some boxes had a simple flat plank, instead.

The calligraphy nibs can all be purchased from suppliers (1, 2) today.

The first one, I agree is probably from a fountain pen. I didn't scroll high enough with all the nib pics when I was replying and forgot about it.:D

Thank you for reminding me that I had a question to ask here...
Because the flat plank isn't missing :)
    It's hidden!
    upload_2025-4-8_0-18-12.png
I wanted to ask what the purpose of that plank could be, but forgot to do so
So, thank you for solving that mystery :)
And what is the purpose of that diagonal piece of wood in the tray? (apart from making it hard to grab the nibs that had slid into that corner...:shifty:)
