Looking for some help from the experts on identifying this US naval officer hat. Looks like WW1? Thanks for the help.

Definitely an officer with all those scrambled eggs on the cap. (Commander?) His records shouldn't be too difficult to track down.

Yup - Commander. The name tag says so.

I suspect the (MC) following his name stands for Marine Corps.

Marines don't wear Navy uniforms, but there are Navy sailors who wear Marine uniforms.

Marines don't have Navy ranks either.

I beg to differ. My nephew graduated from the Naval Academy in 2006, at which ceremony a fair number of his classmates were commissioned as officers in the Marine Corps.

They are considered midshipmen until they graduate.

Still trying to track down the Commander. Any thoughts on what P-2965-M means on the hat? Maybe a Division?
