Definitely an officer with all those scrambled eggs on the cap. (Commander?) His records shouldn't be too difficult to track down.

Yup - Commander. The name tag says so.

 

I suspect the (MC) following his name stands for Marine Corps.

 

Marines don't wear Navy uniforms,but there are Navy sailors who wear Marine uniforms.

 

Marines don't have Navy ranks either.

 

I beg to differ. My nephew graduated from the Naval Academy in 2006, at which ceremony a fair number of his classmates were commissioned as officers in the Marine Corps.

 

"Although both the Navy and the Marine Corps are regarded as separate branches of the military, the Marine Corps is technically a part of the U.S. Navy, ever since Congress placed the Marines under the Navy in 1834. That means that while the commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps reports to the secretary of the Navy, the Navy is its own entity, so the secretary of the Navy reports directly up the chain to the secretary of defense."

 

They are considered midshipmen until they graduate.

Still trying to track down the Commander. Any thoughts on what P-2965-M means on the hat? Maybe a Division?
