Here's a really cute piece I just found, mostly for the frame-but the image is OK.I think it's a hand watercolor painted print, but am not 100% sure. I took a few closeups, but am still 'waffling' on the exact technique-any opinions on how it was created ? PS-Factory Art or not ? Size-Frame 16" by 9"/ Image 8" by 3" All assistance welcome-Thanks !
The colors sure look like watercolor paint. There's even some fading with the red in the signature, which I think would indicate that it's hand-done. The black outlines may be pen / ink. The upper fish is a bit off-camber... maybe he's suddenly chasing after the other one?
*Good point on both observations. Do you think the two fish are actually the same 'stamp'-fish#1 looks a whole lot like fish#2 ?
Yes--- I think you're right! Same posture, shape, detail. Different coloring. That explains why the 'back' one seems off-kilter.
Wild huh-interesting approach. Was the stamp craze back in the 70's,80's ? I know kids were into collecting stickers a while back, maybe they still are.
It's definitely on the paper. Or least a good part of it is. The white is, and the black writing follows the paper pattern with its interruptions. It looks like they mounted the painting to a bevel cut mat.
Do you think it's a combination 1. woodblock or rubber stamp (fish), 2. embellished w/ calligraphy and 3. finished w/ watercolor wash, finally 4. mounted and beveled ? I suppose 2 & 3 could be interchangeable. PS-Is this a legit version of Chinese or Japanese that can be translated or perhaps a fantasy calligraphy ?
