I have two redware plates, contemporary... each is signed. I have found a couple online but apparently no one knows who KLS is? or is it KSL? The larger letter being in the center I assume is the last name??? Any thoughts? would you call this a type of mottoware? thanks! AGAIN!! =) friendship.jpg seeknot.jpg redware.jpg

I would call them redware pottery plates with quotes. If you can fit the quote in the title that would be good & then just add the KSL also.

I sold a large lot of assorted redware plates a few months back. The ones that did the best were made by Earthen Vessels & Ned Foltz. I did not have any with that mark, but I did have some with obscure marks I never did ID. All of mine sold for between $7.00 & $46.00.

I'd call them slipware or slip decorated redware with coggled rim and sgraffito. The way the initials are written S might be the last name. Shooner ?

Did you ever find out about this artist? I have a small plate with similar markings.
