Hypothetical, for fun, if you had the financial means to buy any one antique (and was able to actually acquire it), what would it be? Although any of the Crown Jewels of England would be enticing, my more practical vote (I wouldn’t wear a crown in public, let alone hold a gold orb) is for the chair of photographer Matthew Brady that was originally made for the US House of Representatives. If you’ve seen the photo of President Lincoln and his son Tad, you’ve seen the chair. It was actually for sale recently. https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/22466/lot/1215/ I’m interested to see what others would pick. Furniture? Art? Jewelry?
My Holy Grail, or White Whale, is the cameo I would need to complete a set of 12. I have never seen one & it may not be out there. Does that count? Or does it have to be something known to be in existence?

A full Rene Lalique parure would do OK for me. I don't really have a "white whale" but if I ran across a set at a rummage sale I wouldn't turn it down.
A Patek Philippe pocketwatch, I think. Among many others. But considering their price, I don't think I'll ever own one.
For me, to own a residence in Gamla Stan, Sweden for me to come and go as I wish......with family and friends of course.
Hi, I have the piece. Many years ago i found a dedication piece given out during the opening of the World Trade Center in NYC. It was in my hand getting ready to sell on eBay when my MIL called and said that a plane hit the WTC. The rest of the day I sat and watched the horrors of that day holding the paper weight. To this day I wonder if it is a white whale or an albatross? greg
Reminds me of the old Stephen Wright joke... "You can't have everything. Where would you put it?" Debora
