Good evening and Happy New Year :)

Just came across this piece, It looks lovely and I would really appreciate your expertise and thoughts on the story behind it.
Price is not cheap, therefore wondering if it has any real value? 3.jpg 1.jpg 2.jpg 4.jpg

Oil Paintings are not generally under glass. It might help if you take some very close photos of a small area.

A close-up of the stamp on the canvas would be helpful as well.

My guess is that the one shown by sis and this one is the same painting, no one would bother to copy this.

Hello, Just got few more photos. Considering that back looks so different, looks like seller removed the frame.

I don't think a professional painter, since face has issues (eyes too high) and head position not right for the body. Has a folk-art feel to it for that reason, but don't think this qualifies as folk art (some may disagree). Could have been painted after he died, but probably painted in the mid 1800's while he was alive, but labelled on the back afterwards by a relation. You can find him in England if you google, maybe some relative would want to buy it?

If you can find the barnebys auction price then you'll know how much the current seller paid. He was probably hoping to find a signature, which is why he removed it from frame. Frame doesn't look original to me - probably from an old print that matched the size.

I suspect this isn't worth much more than the current owner paid (though I don't know how much that was). But if you like it and want to keep it, then may be worth negotiating for it.
