Just wondering if a forum member might know anything about this interesting metal detecting find. It appears to be one half of a belt buckle. Interestingly, it’s in the form of “The Nightingale Jewel”, given to Florence Nightingale by Queen Victoria in 1855 in appreciation of the nurse’s efforts during the Crimean War. I’ve searched online but haven’t found a match. Perhaps there was an order of nurses that had this buckle as part of their uniform?
There are lots of images of nurse's buckles. More that I imagined. That website may be the way to start.
Very interesting - thank you, Rob Langdon! Looks to be a match to mine, but found in a shipwreck on the opposite side of the world. Amazing.
