That Homans special metal will fool you every time. I have a 2 ft tall vase with at least seven cut marks on the bottom. That special metal must of have some silver in it. It tarnishes like silver and polishes to a high finish. it even smells like sterling.

I don't know, maybe for fruit? What is the pattern on the outside? Sometimes the pattern tells you the use of an object, if it has fruit then a fruit dish or bowl.

I didn't see this until the answer was already revealed. Darnitt. That said, pieces with those thick feet are almost guaranteed to be plated. I just melted some twins to those candle holders on Monday; they were in much worse condition.
